CN of CT provides world-class neuropsychological services in a boutique and individualized environment. Our founder, Dr. Erica Deshpande, completed training in leading clinical settings and served as an attending neuropsychologist at Boston Children’s Hospital (ranked # 1 children’s hospital in the country by US News & World Report) before starting this practice with the mission of bringing exceptional-quality and compassionate services to the Connecticut shoreline.
A neuropsychological evaluation at CN of CT generally consists of three appointments. The first appointment is a virtual intake with the parents. The second is an in-person assessment session for the child, with a parent present as well. The third is a virtual feedback session with the parents.
The intake session, or diagnostic interview, is an hour-long virtual visit during which parents meet with their child’s neuropsychologist alone to discuss their goals and concerns and to ask questions. The neuropsychologist will gather a developmental history and current parental observations of the child. This session allows the parents and neuropsychologist to get to know each other and create a personalized assessment plan tailored to your family’s goals.
After this session, if applicable, the neuropsychologist will reach out to other involved collateral, such as teachers and outpatient providers for additional information or to complete observer-questionnaires. This gives us the most robust picture of your child across different settings.
The assessment visit is an in-person session for the child and parents that takes place over the course of several hours. Each assessment visit is incredibly individualized to address your specific goals and concerns. Assessment of your child may involve a combination of performance-based measures, self-report measures, and behavioral or play observations.
The feedback session is an opportunity for parents to hear an in-depth presentation of their child’s performances and behaviors over the course of the assessment, understand the meaning behind the data collected, discuss any appropriate diagnoses, receive evidence-based recommendations specific to the child’s strengths and needs, and ask questions.
We offer comprehensive assessment of autism spectrum disorder, complex ADHD, intellectual disability, developmental coordination disorder, complex learning disorders (e.g., dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia), and a range of diagnoses related to communication, mood, anxiety, and behavior.
We also specialize in neuropsychological assessment of children with medical or genetic conditions that impact brain functioning for purposes of developmental monitoring and treatment planning.
Our goal is to deliver written reports within four weeks of the in-person testing session. We will discuss any changes to that timeline with you. If you have a specific date by which you will need written documentation (e.g., an upcoming PPT meeting, school conference), please let us know as soon as possible and we will work with you to plan accordingly.
CN of CT does not accept insurance. This allows us to provide completely individualized assessment beyond what your insurance company might deem medically necessary. For example, insurance companies often dictate which diagnoses and assessment measures will and will not be covered under their policies. Our concierge model allows us to flexibly tailor our services to your goals and maintain greater privacy and protection over your information.
CN of CT provides Health Savings Account (HSA) eligible services. For families enrolled in a HSA-eligible high-deductible health plan (HDHP), payment for our neuropsychological services can be made from your HSA account tax-free.
If you desire to seek reimbursement for our fees through your insurance company, post-payment to CN of CT, we are happy to provide a detailed insurance-acceptable statement (i.e., superbill) to submit to your carrier. Please communicate directly with your insurance carrier to determine if you are eligible for reimbursement or able to apply our fees towards your out-of-network deductible.
We have specialized training in assessment of children ages 2-18.
